The granite surface plate is one of the most common metrology tools in the production units and is used in most testing procedures. The quality of the surfaces depending on its use: it is therefore necessary to revise the instruments after a variable period, depending on use. Worn surfaces not only require a review, but the removal of a layer (of 1 mm or more): this operation, called grinding, of course, involves higher costs then the easyworking of surface (lapping).
It is suggested therefore to periodically plan the control and eventual overhaul of granite instruments, with restoring of the original flatness in order to always have an efficient tool at a reasonable cost.

It's the most economical and most effective, since the lapping operation is performed in air-conditioned rooms with stable controlled temperature and humidity, according to the standard rules of processing.
REVISION BY OUR CUSTOMER'S FACTORY
In cases where for some reason, is not possible to move the plate or the instruments (big size, daily use, transport difficulties) an operator can intervene by the Customer factory, with the necessary equipment: to the customer is required the only electricity power connection and water). Clearly, it is not possible with this intervention, the scalping needed in case of wear as the grinding operation is performed by machine. The intervention is thus to restore the flatness on the surface regardless of the presence of cracks or craters due to accidental collisions.
SCHEDULED REVISION
This is the a recommended solution, in terms of equal effectiveness of intervention, the costs are also reduced (from 30% to 40%) with the ability to schedule dates for action and review of group operations with several customers in the same area region, thus reducing travel costs. The frequency of interventions will be evaluated by the use of the plates.
